On April 30, 1970 President Richard Nixon declared on television that the American troops were to invade Cambodia. It was under the pretext of disrupting the North Vietnamese supply line. They also attacked in order to bomb and destroy the Viet Cong base camps. Even though Nixon officially declared war in April, there were previous air raids in Cambodia in past years without American citizens knowing. President Nixon had been ordering bombings in Cambodia even before declaring the invasion.
